Meet Jemika

Our Founder: Jemika Hall

My name is Jemika Hall and I am the founder of Marc’s Friends. Marc’s Friends was established in 2018 after the death of my son but came to vision in 2020. After being a lifelong resident of Newburgh, I took a chance and moved to Virginia in 2017 to provide a different environment for my children. Being a single mother of 4 children you do what you think is best for them. Never in a million years would I have imagined that the place I wanted to be a haven ended up being my hell.

My son was murdered at the hands of children in 2018. After my son’s death, I had nowhere to turn and neither did my children.  No one could fully understand my grief or that of the siblings my son had left behind.  I searched through different outlets and each helped a little, but what I was really seeking I had to create. I did not want to be just another victim I wanted to share my story, my children’s story with others, because through grief comes gratitude. I was grateful to all the people that reached out, told me their stories and I shared mine, that is how my healing could begin.

Marc’s Friend’s is a support group for mother’s and care takers who have lost their child(ren) to violence or tragedy, as well as a mentorship program to at risk youth. I provide a safe space to express whatever is on their mind.

I am honored that I have been given this opportunity to give back to my community that I love so much. It is my life’s mission to ensure that no one who is hurting from a violent or tragic loss every feels alone or a child that is on the fence does not see a helping hand.
